Modern day journalism:
The beauty of journalism is that its up to one's interpretation. To me journalism means distributing information in an honest way. Now a days there are various ways to spread news and ideas. With this availability, it allows journalists to choose their own preferred style. For example news articles, news videos, or even twitter accounts can be outlets for journalists. I think that video journalism is going to become the most popular platforms to broadcast information. Nothing will be able to be published as fast as a video or live stream. The rawness that it possesses is distinct from any other form of journalism as well, especially if it's a live stream. Because there cant be any cuts or filters.
A great example of video journalism, is a small video series on the War in the Central African Republic. This five part series shows several views and opinions on this civil war. As a privileged American citizen, seeing these videos is like seeing a whole new world. In the Central African Republic there is a civil bar between a Muslim rebel group the Seleka, and a Christian self defense group the anti Balaka. The people of the Central African Republic have seen rape, murder, looting, ethnic cleansing, and corruption for years. The United Nations humanitarian system has done little to nothing to help these people. 33,000 refugees are stranded with hardly anything, outside an airport with only 3 doctors. All because they are scared for their safety. Civilians have found dead bodies on their doorsteps. Machete fights, gun fire, and bombs igniting are normal in neighborhoods like PK12. Which is a Muslim and Christian neighborhood, As Vice news goes through this neighborhood they interview several different people with different religious affiliations and opinions on the war. These video series aren't biased. They are honest, raw, and eyeopening. They shine a light on the horrors that people live through every day. There are obviously cuts and edits. But there's still all points of views, which is exactly what I think journalism should do.
